Frequently Asked Questions

It's natural that you may have questions during training, but please be assured, if we think you should know the answers at that particular stage we will have told you during the modules.

We have created this FAQ section below to assist you. Should you not find the answer then please email Sensei and he will post your question and answer below. He may not be able to answer emails personally because of the volume of members.

Yes you can, all types of cards are available and the system converts the £15 or appropriate fee to your currency

I am sure there are many good clubs and Instructors out there, but only a handful of us have trained the true Japanese way as taught in the 1950’s and 60’s. Sensei Moulds spent 11 years training 6 days a week, 6 hours a day this way.  Later joining Kanazawa Sensei 10th Dan the highest Shotokan grade in the world to personally train with him followed by Mikio Yaraha 8th Dan

Yes you will. Our standards for karate are different from most clubs. Our system allows you to grade as soon as you think you are ready as long as you match our standards. So theoretically, you could grade every week until up to your current grade! We just need to see that you are following our teachings and maintain the standard our Club

We suggest that a minimum of two sessions per week, lasting one hour each, should enable you to progress. However, it all depends on what time you can make available and how good you want to get. Ideally, short sessions every day are better and maintain motivation

This purely depends on how much training you have done before. If you are new to Karate expect it to take around 35 years of good regular training, longer if you are not consistent with training

Yes, but as well as completing our disclaimer you should seek medical advice before starting our course and you will need to be able to complete our disclaimer.

When submitting an exam for grading please make us aware of any limitations you have so that this can be taken into account.

Yes, this is £25 for students who are enrolled on our full course, with a £10 retake exam fee (as the time restriction has been removed) and £50 for students not enrolled on the course with a £20 retake fee. Explore our membership levels.

You start as a White Belt then progress to Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Purple, Intermediate Purple, Brown, Intermediate Brown, Senior Brown and Black Belt. Further advanced exams are available to black belt 4th Dan. Explore the belts and grades in our Grading Hub.

No, the training will begin slowly and increase as you move on developing fitness and flexibility along the way

No age limits, if you are 4 years old or 100 years old, as long as you can perform what is required (to appropriate standard) there is no limit.

No.  However we encourage you to find a training partner as you progress but this is by no means a necessity.

Yes as it is structured very simply. If you have any problems we are here to help

There is a Facebook group available to current members and Sensei and his team are always available to assess you by sending video snippets through to them

Look out for webinars and podcasts.

If you are in the UK you could come and train with us at our dojo in Suffolk.

The content is the same and so is the exam and accreditation, the feel of being in a full live class is the only thing missing

No Organisation accepts another organisations grades, this is politics and a means of getting income from the students so they join them. No Organisation will be interested in your certificates, they will want to see your Karate ‘live’. Our standards will always pass that test

When you are ready to grade you will be guided through the process of uploading a video of you completing the exam.

Most Clubs (including Online Clubs) are taught by Black belts of varying standards, so don’t look at their grade and be fooled, do your homework.

The only standard you should be looking for is the Instructor who has the pure lineage direct to Gichin Funakoshi the founder of modern Karate. Unless they clearly show their own personal grading exams/certificates have been awarded by high ranking Japanese Instructors from the JKA Instructors Class then it is not pure Shotokan karate.

We are sure there are many good clubs and Instructors out there, but only a handful have personally trained the true Japanese way as taught in the 1950’s and 60’s. Sensei Moulds spent 11 years training 6 days a week, 6 hours a day this way.  Later joining Kanazawa Sensei 10th Dan the highest Shotokan grade in the world to personally train with him, followed by training and grading with Mikio Yaraha 10th Dan.

You can see Sensei Moulds certificates in the Gallery on the home page and see they were awarded at the highest level. This should give you the confidence that you are training under a highly qualified and authentic Shotokan 5th Dan.

Remember you are training the Japanese way, you would never wear your current belt in a new Dojo, please don’t expect to wear it in ours. It is disrespectful for a Kyu grade to question their grade. We look forward to you joining us
